Scott Grove says craftsmen may be lying to you
Scott Grove talking about craftsmanship at TEDx

Scott Grove talks about the nature of craftsmanship at TEDx FlourCity.

In a TEDx talk, respected multi-media artist Scott Grove discusses what is craftsmanship and how the term is applied in an age of increasing technology.

Grove, who is known for award-winning veneer and inlay work, whimsical sculptures, and elaborate period architectural restoration work, took to the TEDx stage to explore the very nature of craftsmanship as it relates to handwork. He posits that modern technology has blurred the line between true craftsmanship, which he relates to handwork, and technology, which he relates to automation.

Grove has been a multi-time winner in the Veneer Tech Craftsman's Challenge, and he has also served as a judge in the competition. Some of the examples he cites in his talk include veneer and marquetry done by hand or with the aid of technology such as lasers and CNC machines.

Grove is also an educator and author. In recognition of his longstanding achievements and efforts, Grove was named a Wood Industry Market Leader by Woodworking Network in 2021.
