Zeeland, MI-based furniture manufacturer Herman Miller Inc., recently announced that it will shut down one plant near Seattle that makes health care furniture and combine it with another plant in Wisconsin that also makes health care furniture.
Herman Miller acquired Brandrud Furniture, an Auburn, WA-based manufacturer of healthcare furnishings, in 2008, and it bought Nemschoff, Inc., a Sheboygan, WI-based manufacturer of healthcare furnishings in June.
Now, Herman Miller will be combining both plants into one facility in Sheboygan, WI. The company says the move will save about 400 jobs and create up to 150 in the next two years.
Herman Miller received a $500,000 loan and up to $750,000 in economic development tax credits from the state of Wisconsin to offset the $2.5 million expansion of its Wisconsin facility, according to a statement from Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle.
