HARRISBURG, S.D. — Showplace Cabinetry has partnered with the Build Dakota Scholarship to help develop the next generation of skilled workers in South Dakota.
The Build Dakota program provides students with a full-ride scholarship for high-demand technical careers in exchange for working in South Dakota after graduation. Through partnerships with employers and technical colleges, students are able to gain valuable education and hands-on experience while preparing for successful careers.
The scholarship covers 100% of tuition, fees, books, technology and tools. Upon graduation, students agree to work in their field, for their sponsor if sponsored by an Industry Partner, in South Dakota for a minimum of three years. Students leave school with no student debt and a set of skills that are in high demand, so they'll be ready to hit the ground running and start their career.
One of those students is Izayah Ulmer, who is going to attend Southeast Technical College in the Mechatronics program this fall. Mechatronics combines electrical systems, automation, robotics, and industrial maintenance to support today's advanced manufacturing environments.
While attending school, Ulmer will also be working at Showplace, allowing him to gain real-world experience and become familiar with the company's operations. Upon completing the program, he will transition into a full-time role with Showplace.
"By participating in the Build Dakota program, Showplace is investing in both the future of the company and the future of South Dakota's workforce," the company states on a LinkedIn post. "We are excited to support Izayah throughout his educational journey and look forward to the skills and knowledge he will bring to our team."
