MIAMI, Fla. — To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Frankfurt Kitchen, the fitted kitchen introduced in 1926, Häcker Kitchens is launching the Limited Edition 1926, a special anniversary collection available starting June 1st, 2026 through the anniversary year.
The collection pays tribute to Austrian architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, creator of the Frankfurt Kitchen, which is widely regarded as the prototype of the modern fitted kitchen. The Limited Edition 1926 incorporates historically inspired design elements, including a curated palette of seven NCS colors in a durable matte lacquer finish, an integrated pull-out table and a built-in folding step, all offered at no additional cost.
When architect and urban planner Ernst May brought Austria’s first female architect, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, to Frankfurt in 1925 as part of the pioneering New Frankfurt housing project, she was tasked with designing a fitted kitchen that met the era’s pressing demands: standardization, efficient use of limited space, cost-effective production, and improved ergonomics, hygiene and ease of maintenance.
Her goal was to coordinate the kitchen’s form and function so that everyday tasks could be completed as efficiently as possible. The result transcended its original purpose, as Schütte-Lihotzky’s Frankfurt Kitchen became the archetype for the modern fitted kitchen and a landmark achievement in architectural and design history.
“Uncompromising quality has always been part of our corporate DNA,” states Andreas Gommeringer, president of Häcker Kitchens North America. “Whether in terms of materials, functionality or ergonomics, we share the Frankfurt Kitchen’s commitment to creating kitchens that stand the test of time and perform reliably in everyday life.”
The simplicity of the Frankfurt Kitchen represents a second key point of connection. “Every detail of the Frankfurt Kitchen was designed to make daily life easier through efficient layouts, streamlined workflows and thoughtful planning. This balance of form and function remains a fundamental principle at Häcker Kitchens today,” explains Gommeringer. “The difference is that each of our kitchens is individually designed to perfectly meet the unique needs, preferences and lifestyles of every customer.”
Original Frankfurt NCS colors and durable matte lacquer
Häcker Kitchen is introducing six NCS colors inspired by the original Frankfurt Kitchens, each named after the neighborhoods where they were installed: Forum Yellow, Heidenfield Grey, Burgdeld Green and three shades of blue (Camillo Blue, Hadrian Blue and Römerstadt Blue). The seventh NCS shade, Panorama Blue, is inspired by the Frankfurt Kitchen’s iconic blue hue and named in reference to Häcker Kitchens’ headquarters. Finished in a water-based matte lacquer, this color palette merges historical authenticity with enduring elegance and durability.

Additional features:
As an additional design element included at no extra cost, Häcker Kitchens introduces an integrated pull-out table. Similar table elements were a defining feature of the original Frankfurt Kitchens in the 1920s, combining space-saving solutions with everyday flexibility.
Another key feature of the Frankfurt Kitchen is its ceiling height design, which ensures ample storage space even in compact kitchens. To maximize the use of tall cupboards, Häcker offers a built-in folding step, called the Step-Fix, that can be stowed away in the base unit at no extra cost. The Step-Fix can be quickly and easily removed from the cupboard and then stowed away again, ensuring access to all kitchen supplies and utensils at all times.
From floor-to-ceiling designs and stylish glass wall units to backsplashes, the design elements of the Frankfurt kitchen serve as inspiration for Häcker’s Limited Edition 1926 collection. With Häcker Kitchens, customers can create a bespoke Limited Edition kitchen designed, tailored to their individual wishes, preferences, lifestyle needs and spatial requirements.
