Patty Miller, Boutique Closets and Cabinets, created a cool but functional closet space displaying an extensive sneaker collection. The project won honorable mention in the Closet: Laminate Under 18 linear ft. category in the 2023 Top Shelf Design Awards. Winners were announced on April 13 at a reception sponsored by CCF Industries during the Closets Conference & Expo, held in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Here's how Miller describes the project:

Project Title: Teen Boy's Closet

Project Details: This project was to create a "cool" but functional closet for a teenage boy who wished to display his sneaker collection, but also use every inch of the closet for storage.

Projection Construction: The main focus of this closet is the teenage son's sneaker display. We used LED lighting and carefully custom-drilled the shoe shelves in place, based on sneaker heights, so as not to have any holes for adjustable shelves in the display area. A glass door covers the sneaker cabinet to keep dust out. To give a "Cool" teenage vibe, I used Tafisa aluminum melamine for the body of the cabinets and matt black shaker doors and drawer fronts with masculine black Top Knobs Amwell handles; the upper cabinets included blind corners so as to not lose any space. On the left side, there was only a low hanging therefore, we used corner shelves above to connect the left wall to the back wall so as to not lose any space. This project needed very detailed calculations to make the blind corners and corner shelves work perfectly.

Materials Used: Tafisa Black thermofil doors and drawer fronts, Tafisa Aluminum melamine LED silicone strip lights and glass doors. Top Knobs handles round chrome rods special blind corner hinges

Equipment Used: KCD Closet Pro
