70,000 Costco shower benches recalled for collapse, injuries
Ivena's teak shower bench

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Indonesian furniture manufacturer Ivena has recalled 70,000 of its teak wood shower benches after receiving reports the benches are collapsing and causing injury. The benches were sold exclusively at Costco.

"The shower bench can collapse during use, posing a fall hazard to the user," the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a recall notice.

The CPSC said there have been 81 reports of the benches collapsing or breaking during use. Four people have reported injuries - one of those a fractured tailbone.

Customers can return the bench to Costco, which will issue a full refund. The benches were sold from October 2018 until June of this year for around $90.

With operations in Indonesia and Vietnam, Ivena manufactures chairs, tables, and benches for both indoor and outdoor use. The company's U.S. headquarters is located in San Jose, California.
