CNC Automation to resume operations

ST. ZOTIQUE, Quebec – CNC Automation, a distributor of industrial woodworking machinery, will begin ramping up operations at its office on April 20.

The company’s St. Zotique headquarters, which also houses its showroom and warehouse, has largely been closed since March 24, the day the government of Quebec ordered all non-essential businesses to temporarily shut-down in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Last week, the government authorized home builders to resume construction activities effective April 20. The authorization also allows businesses allied to residential construction, including cabinet manufacturers, wood component makers and machinery dealers to reopen.

Andrew Legault, president and CEO of CNC Automation, said his team was completing the development of a “revised COVID-19 internal and external procedures outline.” He said CNC Automation will have about 70 percent of its workforce back to work either from home or at the office on April 20 with the goal of having all employees back to work on April 27 “in one form or another.”

The one-two punch of the nearly one-month forced shutdown and the coronavirus pandemic’s harsh impact on the Canadian economy has resulted in a decline of CNC Automation’s business activity, Legault said.  “We did continue to ship orders of parts and supplies, once a week to customers throughout the shutdown,” he added. “We are taking this time to provide additional training to all the staff as well as looking at new ways of working moving forward.”

While the company will not be able to host visitors to its showroom for the foreseeable future, it will continue to schedule interactive, live demonstrations using web-based video conferencing tools with its customers.
