U.S. imports of hardwood plywood grew by 25%, according to the Decorative Hardwoods Association.
Through November of last year, imports of hardwood plywood grew by nearly 25% in value to more than $2 billion and almost 8% in volume to more than 3.1 billion square feet,
Total U.S. imports of hardwood plywood grew by 37% in volume and nearly 77% in value from January through June, as compared to the same period last year.
The Department of Commerce has ruled that hardwood plywood assembled and exported from Vietnam used Chinese core materials. After examining multiple types of HWPW, the agency ruled that the HWPW are subject to substantial antidumping and countervailing duties that range as high as 200 percent.
U.S. imports of hardwood plywood have grown 45% year-to-date through May. However, this is lower than the 60% year-to-date growth through April, reports the Decorative Hardwoods Association.
States Industries LLC and the Biele Group, handling equipment machinery specialist, have successfully implemented their first project collaboration consisting of an automatic line to produce hardwood plywood panels, up to 10’ in length, through a short cycle multi-opening press.
Hardwood plywood is used in many U.S. finished goods including kitchen cabinets, recreational vehicles, mobile homes, flooring, and furniture, and a source of that plywood might be cut off due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
