Deal protects 10 million acres of Oregon forest; shields landowners
SALEM, Ore. -- An agreement has been reached between timber and environmental groups to overhaul management of 10 million acres of private forestlands in Oregon.
The deal, announced Saturday, Oct. 30, by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s office, concludes more than a year of negotiations between forestry and environmental groups to develop a plan to boost protections for vulnerable fish and wildlife while shielding the timber industry’s ability to log. The agreement curbs attempts by both sides to place initiatives on the ballot during upcoming elections.

Harvard Study: Home remodeling gains to remain robust
CAMBRIDGE, MA – Strong growth in home improvement and maintenance expenditures is expected to continue over the coming year, according to the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) compiled by the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University.
The LIRA projects year-over-year gains in annual improvement and repair spending will reach 9 percent in the fourth quarter and maintain that pace into 2022.

University receives $4 million grant to study 3D printing with recycled wood
MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho is developing technology to turn Idaho wood waste into architectural millwork and construction materials on the market — by using it as a medium for 3D-printing.
An interdisciplinary research team led by College of Engineering Assistant Professor Michael Maughan has been awarded nearly $4 million from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement Program.
