Mockett has announced the 38th annual design winners

"For the inspiration behind my design, I really started out doing my research, looking through what Mockett already was selling on the website, just kind of getting an idea of both the visual language of the brand, as well as materials they were using to kind of act as a foundation," Thompson explained when asked about the inspiration behind the design.

Inspired by art-deco motifs, the Empire Table Leg merges timeless sophistication with contemporary functionality. Saahiti Kothamasu, a student from Boone, North Carolina, looked to Mockett's custom table leg collection as a starting point. Saahiti settled on a design that commands attention and leaves a lasting impression

Ben Pipitone submitted a Crease Shelf Bracket. Drawing inspiration from angular silhouettes and high-speed transport, Ben designed a shelf that strove to capture velocity and precision. Another great design from the students at Appalachian State University.

Daniel has spent the last 35 years designing furnishings for major businesses and owns his own design firm, dog.studio, based in Michigan. Inspired by the sense of accomplishment when completing a project, the Exclamation Wall Hook serves as the pièce de résistance to any project.

Ready to submit your design for the 39th annual competition? Click here to complete the entry form and fill out all required fields. Be sure to include a clear write-up about your idea. A drawing is even better, a model is best. Models and materials can be sent via FedEx or registered mail with Attn: Design Competition on your label or air bill. Click here for the address.

Deadline is always the Tuesday after Labor Day. Judges will meet and decide on the winner(s) who will be notified no later than December 31st of the competition year. Winners are awarded $3,000, an engraved achievement trophy, and royalties based on sales.
