SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Designs of Distinction (DOD) by Brown Wood will present its new Base Shapes for Use with Tambour at Wood Pro Expo Illinois, co-located with the Closets Expo, April 18-19, 2024.
DOD also plans to display a new Titanium finish for its Metallic Accents product line.
The tambour base collection features three shapes: Angled, Cylinder and Rectangle. DOD says each of the new base shapes was inspired by key findings from NKBA’s 2024 Kitchen Trends Report, including: multi-functional islands designed for seating and gathering; incorporation of natural and organic materials; and geometric shapes reminiscent of Art Deco design styles.
Angled and Rectangle base shapes are constructed with solid wood ends and solid maple plywood side panels, allowing for greater structural build compared to MDF. DOD includes a template to cut tambour, which is then applied to the solid plywood side panels and finished with paint or stain.
The Cylinder base shape is manufactured from multiple layers of heavyweight paperboard, with a similar density to MDF. Tambour is applied to the exterior of the Cylinder, then painted or stained. The Cylinder shape includes end plugs with a hole to provide additional support and accommodate electrical wiring.
Each shape measures 34.5” high and features recessed panels for bevel, bead, cove and square style Tambour up to ½” thick. Shapes and tambour are shipped unfinished, ready to stain or paint upon delivery.

New Titanium finish for Metallic Accents
With the addition of Titanium, DOD now carries Metallic Accents in eight finishes. The company says it has added Titanium to its line of Metallic Accents due to trends revealed at Design Chicago in September.
Kathryn Constantine, VP of sales & marketing at DOD, said, “Titanium finishes were discussed by hardware and appliance companies alike,” noting companies like Belwith Keeler and GE Appliances planned to add Titanium finishes to their product lines, if they have not done so already.
