The U.S. home storage and organization market is currently estimated at approximately $8.8 billion, according to research from companies like The Freedonia Group. Further demand for closets and home organization products is expected to push that number higher, by 3.5 percent annually, to $10.5 billion in 2019.

Over the past several years garage organization has been a significant part of the industry’s growth with that segment recording its fastest gains between 2009 and 2014.  However, closets and bedrooms are still the most important areas for home organization products. Demand for closet storage outpaced that for other bedroom storage due to greater investment in modular units. Home organization product spending in bedrooms (not including closets) primarily includes shelves and bins, baskets, and totes.

With improvement in the housing market, most closet companies have reported an increase as well as consistent business in 2016. In a Woodworking Network survey of closet companies, approximately 90 percent said business conditions improved in 2016.
