Explosion at lumber plant injures 7
Matra SDB plant

BEAUCEVILLE, Que. - An explosion at a lumber and window and door manufacturing facility in Quebec injured seven people early Monday morning.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. CBC Canada reports that six people have injuries so severe that they were intubated and transferred to the trauma unit.

Operated by the Matra Group, the plant specializes in transforming finger-jointed wood into door and window components.

No details were released on why the explosion occurred.

Residents of the town are being encouraged not to use much water, as firefighters are needing lots of it to extinguish the fire, reports CBC.

Matra manufactures doors and windows components as well as primed siding and trims from Eastern White Pine lumber. With two plants and over 170,000 sq. ft. of production space, the company processes more than 30 million board feet of conifer each year.
