Interfor sells sawmill that supplies Japanese home market
Acorn sawmill

BURNABY, British Columbia – Interfor Corp. sold its Acorn sawmill in Delta, British Columbia, to San Group. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The Acorn mill specializes in producing lumber squares for the traditional Japanese home market. The nearly 60-year-old mill has the capacity to produce approximately 140 million board feet per year based on running two shifts. Interfor, however, has been operating the mill on a one-shift basis for many years. It produced 56 million board feet of lumber in 2021.

San Group, a privately-held forest products company, operates valued-added lumber manufacturing operations in Port Alberni and Langley, British Columbia. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022.
