Cabinetworks plans $23 million expansion to Pennsylvania plant

Cabinetworks' Mt. Union, Penn., facility.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Cabinetworks Group working in collaboration with the State of Pennsylvania, plans to expand its Mount Union facility in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and add 300 jobs to its current roster of 1,694 quality manufacturing jobs.

Cabinetworks is investing $23 million to transform its 206,000-square-feet Mount Union facility from a component plant into an advanced manufacturing and assembly operation that can build and ship fully assembled cabinets.

Cabinetworks will revamp the facility layout and implement a highly efficient, high-speed cabinet production model with state-of-the-art equipment to meet a production goal of 5,000 or more cabinets per day by the end of 2025.

As part of this transformation, Cabinetworks has pledged to create over 300 new jobs over the next three years at this facility.

Cabinetworks received a Pennsylvania First grant and a workforce development grant from the state to reskill and train new workers to excel in manufacturing, production of cabinets, and supporting roles.

“We thank Governor Wolf and his staff for their continued support,” said John Barkhouse, CEO of Cabinetworks. “We are proud to expand our operations in central Pennsylvania, so we can continue to contribute to the state’s economy and maintain more than 1,600 local quality jobs. Over the next months and years, we will reskill and train our workers to meet the changing needs of our operations.”

Chris Winans, COO of Cabinetworks, added, “Partnerships like these are essential to our business strategy of growing the company footprint to increase capacity and enhance quality. This expansion will boost our ability to provide essential products for new construction of American homes amid a national housing shortage.”

Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Acting Secretary Neil Weaver will join John Barkhouse today for a press event inside the Mount Union plant, along with other company executives, federal and state officials, and regional business leaders.

This is the second time the company has joined forces with the Governor's Action Team, which assists businesses looking to move to or expand in Pennsylvania. In 2016, Cabinetworks made a $10.7 million investment to purchase the Mount Union plant, which made it the company’s fourth location in the state, where it has been manufacturing since 1970.
