NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Dimension Hardwoods recently completed a major expansion of its New Albany, Indiana, Dimension Plywood and Door Division, expanding its manufacturing capability by installing in-house finishing and adding capacity for making high-end wood doors, frames, and panel-related products.

The expansion includes adding an 18,000-square-foot building, bringing the total manufacturing plant to 61,000 square feet. The new addition will house a new finishing facility along with an improved layout for veneering operations. The investment also opens existing floor space for raw materials to support growth and allows for added capacity to establish a dedicated “Specials” department.

The new “Specials” area brings investment in additional woodworking equipment to increase capability for making custom wood doors & frames, fire-rated stile & rail doors & frames, and related components. The Specials product offerings will include making custom table tops, rim banded panels, custom profiles, and wood bead, as well as installation of glass, lite kits, louvers, sidelites, and other custom wood components.

“The ability to do finishing in-house, under one roof, with all manufacturing processes will benefit our customers in several ways, including the capability to make doors complete, ready to ship to the job site,” said Ben Horstman, vice president. “This is something our customers have been wanting us to do for a while to help reduce overall labor, handling, and lead times.”
“This expansion will enhance our value-add offerings to better serve our customers, help them grow, and further strengthen our partnerships for the long term.”

Dimension Plywood installed door manufacturing capability in 2018 and has since grown the product line to represent over 40% of the business. Dimension Hardwoods’ sister companies include Ohio-based Dimension Veneers along with Dimension Timber based in the Indianapolis area.
Dimension Hardwoods will celebrate its 20th Anniversary in September 2023. “We have been blessed to have great people working alongside us that believe in our core values and work as a team to help us grow and improve the business,” said Paul Horstman, President,” who along with sons, Ben, and Tim, are co-owners of the company.
