CORRY, Pa. — Jewell’s Hardwoods is back in business 17 months after an arson-suspected fire destroyed the company’s sawmill operation.

According to the Corry Journal, Jewell’s Hardwoods relocated its sawmill to a larger site in Corry, Pa., about 10 miles from the fire-devastated sawmill in Spartanburg, Pa.

Owner Travis Jewell told the Journal that he wants to add a dry kiln to the new site.

Jewell’s Hardwoods employed about 16 people when the suspicious fire broke out Jan. 28, 2023. State police initiated an arson investigation after three 100-pound propane tanks with their valves open, normally stored outside, were found in the sawmill. In addition, surveillance cameras caught video of two unknown pick-up trucks leaving the scene shortly before the fire broke out in the main building.

Jewell celebrated his businesses’ reopening with an open house on June 21.
