HIGH POINT, N.C. – Ken Smith, a founding member and former managing partner of Smith Leonard PLLC, has retired effective Dec. 31, 2023.

Smith Leonard is a leading Triad-based accounting and consulting firm that also produces the monthly Furniture Insights for the residential furniture industry, which Smith spearheaded along with the conducting of annual furniture surveys. Smith's partner, Mark Laferriere, will assume leadership of the firm’s furniture practice.

Along with three partners, Smith founded Smith Leonard PLLC in 2006 following his retirement from BDO Seidman. “After 54 years of dedicated service and exceptional leadership, Ken has decided to embark on a well-deserved retirement journey. He has been an extraordinary partner and friend to many during his career. He leaves behind a legacy of leadership, community engagement, and business expertise,” said Darlene Leonard, a founding partner.

“Ken was an integral part of Smith Leonard’s growth and success,” added Mark Bulmer, managing partner and founding partner.

Well-known throughout the industry, Smith has also chaired and served on many local boards including High Point Regional Health System, Business High Point/Chamber of Commerce, High Point Economic Development, Guilford County Economic Development Alliance, and he led the United Way of Greater High Point’s 2016 Campaign. Smith is also a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of High Point and has chaired and served on the High Point Regional Health Foundation Board.

A retirement celebration was held Dec. 6, 2023.

Smith grew up in High Point where he still lives with his wife Sandra. They have two children and five grandchildren with whom he said he looks forward to annual trips to the beach. Smith also enjoys High Point University sports, golf, and early morning walks with friends.
