Pillar Machine and Larick Machinery are "Cruising the United States & Canada" bringing fully functional machines ready to cut samples in a manufacturer's parking lot.
Driving a renovated travel bus, the company allow manufacturers to test out samples on machinery before buying they decide whether to buy the machinery. The bus is self-contained: it has its own power, compressed air, and heating/air conditioning.
The bus arrives the night before the day's first appointment and is "ready to roll the next morning as early as you’d like. We’ll have the trailer ready for demo in 4 minutes – about the time it takes you to go in and gather your customer."
Typically, 4 or 5 machines are brought on the trip, including the H49 dowel inserter, the M45 miter machine, the 2S panel sizing machine, the HMJ haunching machine, and the CMJ coping machine. The company needs a firm date for the drive so they can have the requested machines for the drive in production and the trailer ready. They require a couple of solid appointments each day and several back up cold calls to fill in the time if things change. "Four out of five cold calls brings people out to the trailer," the company said. "Machines in the parking lot bring the masses."
