The Urban Wood Network (UWN), a national organization dedicated to the repurposing of lumber salvaged from felled urban trees, will kick off its 2024 webinar series on Jan. 10 with the presentation, “We are the Urban Wood Network.”
Each month, the UWN Education Committee will host webinars and programs to educate members and other urban wood stakeholders on current topics in urban wood, identify opportunities for various sectors to collaborate, highlight how to utilize the UWN to develop or expand a business, and more.

The Jan. 10 webinar will feature wood utilization veterans Jessica Simons, director of the original Urban Wood Project and now vice president of conservation stewardship at the Kalamazoo Nature Center, and Rick Siewert, director of manufacturing at Wood From The Hood based in Minneapolis. They will discuss the UWN’s efforts to unite a diverse range of stakeholders to promote sustainable urban and community forest management, foster collaboration, and standardize urban wood utilization practices. UWN’s membership includes log and tree suppliers, tree removal services, log haulers, sawyers, wood product manufacturers and others interested in participating in the urban wood movement.
The Jan. 10 webinar, running from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Central Time, will explore UWN’s Code of Ethics; delve into the organization’s history, experiences, and stories; highlight member partnerships, education resources, and networking opportunities.
Each of the webinars is slated to run from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. CT. Registration is $10 for UWN members and $15 for non-members.
