ATLANTA -- An art deco desk built with ebony and pear wood veneers was chosen as the top entry in the second annual Veneer Technologies Craftsman?s Challenge competition, announced during the 2006 International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair in August. Kent Townsend of Kent Townsend Fine Furniture, Salida, CO, was awarded the $5,000 grand prize. Cash awards were also presented to Sabrina Parisette-Herzog, owner of Herzog Veneers Inc. of High Point, NC, $3,000, and Hank Trantham, distributor salesman, $2,000, each of whom was involved with supplying veneers for the winning project. Trophies were awarded to the winners of five categories and 34 honorable mentions were also recognized by the competition. Click here to view all the entries.
