Topcraft, Inc., a commercial casework manufacturer located in Barberton, Ohio, plans to expand its operations ithat will increase warehouse and production capacity 80% when it's complete.

The $1 million investment could also lead to a doubling of employment at Topcraft Inc. The company currently has a staff of 16 full-time employees, according to the Akron Business Journal. The project will increase Topcraft's space to more than 33,000 square feet.

The company produces plastic laminate cabinets that are used by general contractors in hospitals, office buildings, courthouses, financial institutions, and entertainment facilities. Topcraft has been in business since 1975 and and In 1992 a new facility was built and the business was relocated to its current location. The company says that it has since experienced additional growth and currently has more than 20,000 square feet of manufacturing floor space furnished with modern production equipment.  In 2004, an additional 6,000 square foot storage bay was added to increase capacity.

In October, co-owner Phil Eckinger detailed the plans in a letter read to the city. Eckinger and his brother bought the company in October 2021 to help with the millwork requirements of another business, Eckinger Construction.

The new owners were able to double revenue and increase employment at the company.

"We anticipate Topcraft to have an additional growth of 50% from 2022 to 2023," Eckinger wrote in the letter to the municipality.

In his letter, Eckinger said his company was considering options, with expansion in Barberton, accompanied by a Community Reinvestment Area designation, as the best choice. The CRA enables companies to expand or build new facilities while property taxes aren't imposed on the assessed value of the new structure.
