Domenic Marcolongo, Las Vegas Closet Design, is a 2024 Top Shelf Design Awards finalist.

Category:
Closet: Laminate Over 18 linear ft.

Project title:
Dream Closet

Project Description:
This project was a dream come true. Working with a past client to create an even bigger and better closet than her previous home, her goal was to go grand and elegant while still feeling comfortable and user-friendly for their on-the-go lifestyle. We created a vanity space to house her cosmetics and hair products with built-in cupholders for makeup brushes and hair tools. Adding a washer/dryer to the closet was one of the biggest priorities when designing the space, so we opted for a single-unit appliance to save space in the room. Her 9-foot-long island has a white pebbled-leather texture which looks beautifully understated to allow the chandelier to be the focal feature in the room. For her shoes, we illuminated each shelf horizontally and wrapped the back panels with mirrors. The mirrored cabinets flanking the sides of the shoes not only house casual footwear but also function as full-length mirrors that face each other, offering a view of the front and back of her outfit as she gets dressed. The closet drawers are all filled with custom dividers and inserts to keep her clothing and accessories as organized on the inside of the drawers as they are in the hanging sections. Behind the large mirrored cabinets at the front of the closet is where simple t-shirts and causal clothing are hung, allowing the fun statement pieces to be the decor in the open areas of the closet.

Project Construction:
This project started with adding plumbing into the closet to incorporate a single-unit washer/dryer since our client's laundry room was far from their primary bedroom. We replaced the carpet with builder-grade carpeting with a luxurious carpet that matched the overall aesthetic of the room, and we wallpapered the ceiling with a textured shimmery wallpaper that complemented the sheen of the carpet. The cabinetry was a combination of a traditional vertical panel CAM-lock system mixed with floating shelves reinforced behind the drywall to offer longer runs of hanging sections with fewer panels.

Materials Used:
Salt International Mahnolia Linen, CLEAF Primofiore countertops, Restoration Hardware cabinet pulls & knobs, Vahallan wallpaper Stanton carpet, Eurofase chandelier
