Biesse acquires Italian CNC machinery maker Uniteam

Biesse announced it will acquire CNC equipment maker Uniteam S.p.A., giving the diversified machinery manufacturer entry into the wood construction market. Biesse, which specializes in systems for the woodworking/panel processing, glass, stone and composite material markets, said the acquisition will also help broaden the group's presence in the advanced materials and composites sectors.

Woodgrain Millwork plans $1.86 million expansion

Woodgrain Millwork has announced plans for a $1.86 million expansion to its Marion, Virginia, window and door component manufacturing facility. The investment includes building an 18,000 square-foot addition and new equipment. Woodgrain Millwork also has committed to purchasing more than $4.6 million of Virginia lumber over the next three years, or 78 percent of the mill's timber needs.

E.A. Clore, established 1830, closes hand-built furniture shop

E.A. Clore Sons, Inc., a Madison, Virgina, furniture manufacturer that prides itself on traditional joinery methods and animal hide glue, will close for good. The company said it would take some orders as time and materials allow, but add a 20 percent surcharge to those orders. It was founded by a son of a German immigrant in 1830.
